Haramaya University Research and Extension
Haramaya University has been engaged in research and technology dissemination (extension) activities for more than six decades. The Research and Extension Office is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all research and extension initiatives across the university.
Since its establishment, the University has been at the forefront of research in various disciplines, with a strong focus on agriculture. As a pioneering institution in agricultural education, research, and extension in Ethiopia, Haramaya University has developed and released numerous improved crop varieties and advanced crop and livestock management practices. It has also produced a wealth of scholarly materials, including textbooks, book chapters, research articles, bulletins, proceedings, posters, and numerous M.Sc. and Ph.D. theses.
Haramaya University Research Grant Management System (HURGMS)
The Haramaya University Research Grant Management System (HURGMS) is a comprehensive web-based application developed to streamline and manage the entire research grant lifecycle — from proposal submission and review to approval, monitoring, and final project completion.
This system enhances efficiency, transparency, and accountability in research administration. It provides a centralized digital platform where different users — including researchers, reviewers, theme leaders, and Director for Research Affairs — can perform their respective roles in a coordinated manner.
Through HURGMS, researchers can easily submit proposals and progress reports online, reviewers can evaluate submissions digitally, and administrators can monitor implementation and generate real-time reports. The system significantly reduces paperwork, minimizes delays, and ensures that research processes are managed in a structured, consistent, and traceable manner — contributing to better research quality and institutional performance.
